We're all excited when that vacation rolls around. It may be a yearly thing, a bi-yearly, or something that doesn't happen nearly as frequent as we'd like, but when it does, there is always some level of excitment. That chance to get away from the daily grind of the realities that are our lives whether good or bad is always accepted with open arms. . . at least by this excited traveler they are!

REALLY?

So Mike books us a room in Mitchell SD. . . Corn Palace USA!
We wanted to take our time rather than drive straight through and since my husband is a bit of a "Cone Head" (aka: tourist) we thought it would be the perfect place to stay the night.
We couldn't be more wrong!

At the desk to get our room. Desk Clerk: "ok, you're in room 115, take the elevator down and go to the right."

Now mind you, we were standing at GROUND level!

Me: "you have a basement? We're in the basement?"
Clerk: "no, it's only halfway under ground."
Me: "you mean like a split level, can we get something else if we don't like it?"(looking very concerned at this point)
Clerk: "we don't have any more king rooms left, and I've never had anyone not like one of our King rooms."
OH REALLY?
The thing had ceilings that were so low you could touch it by raising your hand. The window opened up to the parking lot, and it smelled funny.
REALLY?
No way! Back down to the clerk who was NOT happy with us AT ALL!
Me: "do you have anything else, queen, king, anything?"
Clerk: "we have another king"

REALLY? I thought she said there was nothing left.

Me: "has it been booked?"
Clerk: "No, we save it for last."

Needless to say, we took it and as I said thank you to her she didn't say anything back. . . mad? Seemingly so, but why? Was she saving it for herself?
Oy Vey!

The new room has tall ceilings, we can breathe, it doesn't smell funny and we don't feel like the entire building is going to fall in on us. Glad it's only one night.
